Joint Injections

Fast, cost-effective treatment for painful joints, inflammation and soft tissue conditions.

At Medical Solutions GP Services, we provide private joint injection appointments for suitable patients with joint pain, bursitis, tendon-related pain and inflammatory flare-ups.
A joint injection may help reduce pain and inflammation, improve movement, and support your recovery where other treatments have not provided enough relief. Treatment is provided following a clinical assessment to make sure an injection is appropriate and safe for you.

Steroid injections are commonly used for short-term symptom relief. NICE guidance states that intra-articular corticosteroid injections may be considered where other treatments are ineffective or unsuitable, or to support therapeutic exercise, and that patients should be told they usually provide short-term relief.

Prices

Treatment Price
Steroid injection — one joint/site £145
Steroid injections — two joints/sites on the same day £197
Hyaluronic acid knee injection — one knee Up to £250
Hyaluronic acid knee injections — both knees same day Up to £390

Prices depend on medication, clinical suitability and availability.

Hyaluronic acid injections are more expensive because the medication cost is significantly higher. NICE does not recommend intra-articular hyaluronan injections for managing osteoarthritis in NHS guidance, so the website should avoid overstating benefit and should make clear this is subject to clinical assessment.

Conditions We Can Assess and Treat

We can assess and, where clinically appropriate, provide steroid injections for:

What Happens at Your Appointment?

We will only provide an injection where it is clinically suitable. If your symptoms suggest infection, fracture, nerve involvement, significant unexplained swelling or another condition needing urgent review, we may advise referral to your GP, physiotherapy, imaging or urgent care.

  1. A review of your symptoms
  2. A discussion about your medical history
  3. Assessment of the affected joint or area
  4. Explanation of treatment options
  5. Discussion of risks, benefits and alternatives
  6. The injection, if clinically appropriate
  7. Aftercare advice before you leave
What Is a Steroid Injection?

A steroid injection delivers anti-inflammatory medication directly into or around the painful area. It is designed to reduce inflammation and pain in a targeted way.
Steroid injections do not cure the underlying cause of every joint problem. They are often used to reduce symptoms so that movement, rehabilitation and normal activity become easier.

How Long Does It Take to Work?

Some patients notice improvement within a few days. For others, it may take longer.
Relief can vary. Some people get significant benefit, while others may get limited or no improvement. The effect may last weeks or months depending on the condition, severity and individual response.

Aftercare
After your injection, you may be advised to rest the area for a short period and avoid strenuous activity for 24–48 hours. You should seek urgent medical advice if you develop severe increasing pain, spreading redness, fever, or feel generally unwell after an injection.
When an Injection May Not Be Suitable

A joint injection may not be suitable if you:
• Have signs of infection
• Have a skin infection near the injection site
• Are unwell with fever
• Have had a recent injury where fracture is possible
• Are taking blood-thinning medication and need further assessment
• Have poorly controlled diabetes
• Have had repeated injections into the same area recently
• Have an allergy to any proposed medication
This will be checked during your consultation.

Possible Side Effects

Most people tolerate joint injections well, but side effects can occur. These may include:
• Temporary increase in pain after the injection
• Bruising, swelling or tenderness
• Facial flushing
• Temporary rise in blood sugar, especially in people with diabetes
• Skin thinning or colour change around the injection site
• Infection, although this is rare
• Tendon weakening if steroid injections are repeated too often in some areas

We will discuss the risks with you before treatment.
